TRANSCRIPT: (SUMMER 2012)
Hello my name is Sericia Jackerson. I had my internship experience here with Gallaudet University Regional Center – Southwest at Austin Community College under the direction of Arlene Gunderson. My experience here has been great!
I have learned many things that I will explain later. What I have been doing and focusing on are:
· Developing flyers for various events.
· The GURC-SW display board that shares resources on the center.
· I prepared materials and packets for conferences and a retreat.
· I collected information on various deaf related events within our region.
What I have learned about Gallaudet University Regional Center as an outreach program is that it is a challenge! You have to reach out to the communities all over the 8 southwestern states. Not only that, to find information and ways to market our center with others and build partnerships.
What I can share about this center, is that it has so much to offer. If you need resources or support, GURC-SW provides it for you. This is not just for the community, but also for professionals that need training, workshops or meetings to help them develop an understanding of how to support the deaf and hard of hearing community. Those who feel they want or need to finish school, but feel that Gallaudet University is too far, Austin Community College offers courses that are transferrable. Or even to complete a few other things. This center offers great resources.
Thank You.
